My wife and I just finished putting this crib together. It took a total of 25 minutes start to finish. The instructions were extremely easy to follow. We bought this exact crib in honey oak 18 months ago for baby number one and it has worked so well, we ordered the same crib in white for baby number two. Our original crib is in the same great shape as when we first put it together. The only adjustments we have done, where to lower the mattress support heights from higher to lower. Even that process only took a matter of minutes. I have read crib purchase reviews where the box arrived extremely beat up. When ours arrived the outside of the box was a little rough, but the crib pieces inside are very well packed, padded, and wrapped and there was not a scratch on the white finish. The super saver free shipping arrived at our door 6 days from date of purchase. I have never wrote a review for an online purchase before, but we are so pleased with our two cribs that I wanted to pass on a very positive message to those who may be comtemplating buying this crib.
P.S. I'm a physician and this crib could not be any safer...no solid side walls or backing...just the well spaced rounded slates all the way around and no moving parts

After opening up and installing today, I was impressed with the quality and finish of the wood. All the parts and holes were good for us. The crib looks great. I like the fact our baby can grow with the bed. We ordered the extension as well. I will definately buy from this company again. Fast shipping, and great quality.

I spent hours online and in stores comparing cribs for my grandson. Was very hesitant to purchase something this big online, especially after reading some reviews about it coming damaged, but when I saw the price, and cheap shipping, I figured it was worth a try. I am so glad I did. The crib arrived in time, in perfect shape, packed very secure, with not a scratch. The directions were easy to follow, all the parts were included, and we had it up in about an hour. (Even for two old grandparents.) My daughter spent almost $500 on her crib, and I think this one is more sturdy and better looking. Haven't had the chance to put our little guy in it yet, but so far I believe we will be very happy with it. I do plan on getting the round teether covers for the top rails, since I don't want him scratching it up with his teeth! Would recommend it to anyone, especially at this price.

This is a great crib. My baby loves it. Everytime I put him in it he gets really excited. It is also a great finish and very sturdy. I also like that is can convert to a toddler bed with just a few adjustments. The crib arrived in a torn up box with missing hardware. I contacted the makers and they were great. With no charge or hassle they sent me the missing parts. This crib is a great price for what you get.

This crib makes our nursery! Every person that has seen the room comments on what a beautiful crib this is. The wood is very thick and expensive looking for a very inexpensive price. The crib is very sturdy when put together, and with no movable parts (the front piece doesn't lower) it is very safe for the baby. Knowing that this crib will grow with my baby through toddler and childhood years is reassuring too. I'm glad that I purchased this crib! You can't beat the quality for the price.

This is one heavy, sturdy crib (read good thing). Got it with all pieces intact and no scratches; assembled in about an hour and was really pleased with the finished product. No squeaks at all and I obeyed the warning not to over tighten any of the screws. It's mid-priced, but worth every penny and the height adjustment is very secure with NO possibility of "slipping out". It has a real solid feel that reflects its solid wood construction and baby sleeps like...well...a baby. Make sure to get a good mattress to go with it like one of the Sealy P'dics we got. Looking forward to the day when we turn it into a day bed, then a kids bed with the matching rails which we also bought at the same time (they may not be available in a few years due to model changes) We expect this to last a really long time.

I was concerned about purchasing a crib with a stationary (static) rail. I have read reviews on other cribs in which people complained of the difficulty reaching over the front rail to get the baby. That is not the case with this crib. The front rail is roughly 34"H. I have absolutely no problem getting my son in and out & I have the mattress on the lowest setting. I also had no problem attaching a mobile to this crib.(back or sides work)The crib is a pretty cherry color and seems very sturdy. A good deal for the price. To top it all off...it was available with SuperSaver Shipping. The crib arrived in 2 days! The manufacturer is located in So Cal....lucky me.

I have one of these cribs already for my son. We have another one on the way and when it came to the choice of which crib to buy there was no question. This crib is so versatile. It goes from a crib to a toddler bed and then to a full size. We can use it for years. I'm only 5'4" tall and I was a little worried about the side not moving down but it works out great for me even when it is on the lowest level. I would recommend this crib to anyone.

My husband and I looked at several cribs in-store and were a little unsure of buying one over the internet, however everything worked out and we are very pleased w/ our purchase. The price, no shipping and handling etc. can't be beat. The crib went together relatively well and is quite sturdy. The wood does mark rather easily, but with our budget a hardwood crib was out of the question. We also purchased the DaVinci Emily Changer/Dresser. They look great together. Overall, we are very happy w/ our decision.
12.) Good for the price, add varnish if you can.
Reviewed by: Trogd00r Los Angeles CA

This crib is bigger than standard size, it lists the dimensions but doesn't explicitly say that. For that reason I got the matching DaVinci mattress as well. The crib does scratch easily but that's because it's made out of Pine, a softer than ideal wood, as well as having a really thin layer of varnish. Because of the reviews that said it scratches easily I decided to give it two more coats of water based polyurethane before using it. This greatly improved it's durability. Of course you could just refinish it in a couple of years when it's all scratched up but it's a lot easier to just add some coats on when you get it.

At this price (around 200), I couldn't find a better deal.

I just ordered this crib for our new baby. It arrived in excellent condition in approximately 9 days from purchase. I ordered a Simplicity Ellis crib for my 20 month old (2 years ago) and it did not arrive in as good of condition as this crib. I am 6 1/2 months pregnant and assembled it myself in about 2-2.5 hours. The directions were, for the most part, pretty easy to follow. The crib (natural color) does scratch easily, but the assembled crib is sturdy (I am very picky about quality) and even more attractive than in the pictures. This crib was highly rated by Consumer Reports and on most of the websites I searched. The good ratings, along with the affordable price (most cribs in the store were > $400 and this was $280 with free shipping) convinced me to buy this crib. I have had good luck with my Simplicity Ellis Crib (very sturdy and attractive), but wanted to try this brand because I wanted the "natural" color. I have not yet used the crib, but am happy with the purchase so far (based on comparisons with my current Ellis crib which has remained sturdy and elegant through 20 months with an active toddler).

FYI. the screws for the left and right sides of the crib that attaches to the rear did not fit. they were too short. i took screw to home depot after i measured the size and you need 4"screws instead of the 3"screws that came in the package. after that it was DONE. I bought the DaVinci Emily Convertible Baby Crib in Oak a couple of weeks ago, after extensive research, both in-store and online. Other cribs which the husband and I saw in-store were sturdy, but much pricier than this one, so we ended up ordering this one from Amazon.
The crib was shipped with no dinks or scratches. Assembling it was a cinch, and in just under 3 hours, we had a beautiful baby crib. The crib is unbelievably sturdy and what I like most is that the sides are stationary, so there's no danger of my baby's limbs getting caught if the side rails should fall accidentally (one of the reasons for the many baby crib recalls). The rounded edges are also a plus - with no sharp corners, it also reduces accidents.
Like many other reviewers, my only (small) complaint is that the soft wood scratches rather easily, so be careful during handling! All in all, I would definitely recommend this product to would-be parents!

My husband and I decided to put this crib together last night. It took all of maybe an hour. The instructions seemed vague at first, but once you actually start putting things together it became very easy.
Advice I would give a new buyer: Assemble the crib IN the nursery! Some may think this is obvious, but my husband wanted to do it in front of the television in the living room (thinking it would take hours). We had to take the back part off and flip up the mattress support to get it into the baby's room. Though it was VERY easy to do, it would have been easier to just set up in the room.
Once set up, the crib is absolutely beautiful! The color actually looks like the pictures online. The crib is extremely sturdy and the Da Vinci mattress we registered for fits perfectly snug. The wood does however scratch pretty easily, so take it slow and careful... and keep furniture polish and wood markers handy for after set up.
All in all, I'm overly satisfied with this crib!

We also use the DaVinci Emily II 2-in-1 Coil Mattress with the QuickZip Crib Mattress Pad and the QuickZip Sheet Set. Our 6 month old daughter tended to stick her legs and arms through the sides of the crib (though this will happen with any crib), so we recently purchased the BreathableBaby Breathable Safer Bumper and that has made a huge difference.
36.) Tops for Safety and Zero Hassles With Assembly
Reviewed by: Elbow Salem, MA USA
Rating:
We purchased this crib in June of 2009 after having researched dozens including some of the, "organic", models offered that purport to be completely VOC free etc., usually at a cost north of USD1000. That cost would be fine if you could be certain that the money was unequivocally buying you some additional level of safety.
After months of steady research I didn't feel that these more expensive organic cribs were necessarily safer and in fact, was worried about the paucity of customer testimonial associated with them.
When it came down to it we relied on the numerous positive reviews on Amazon as well as the endorsement of Consumer Reports (this model was an editor's choice on Consumer Reports' list.)
I read a review just now where a couple claimed to have put the crib together in 25 minutes. That must have looked like a NASCAR pit stop, I have no idea how someone could put it together that quickly - good for them.
I assembled it solo and it took a couple hours, though I wasn't rushing and was double and triple checking the tightness of each bolt. I also spent some time leveling the mattress spring system.
The best thing I can say about the assembly is that there is no point at which you'll be frustrated. Frequently in putting together something with as many parts as this, you'll encounter some trouble despite your being sure you are following the directions correctly (think IKEA assembly). That didn't happen to me once with this crib.
When you're done you'll be happy with the final product as well. It feels very well manufactured and built, something you'd be fully confident putting your child in.

We purchased it in Ebony--- very nice black color!
This is one item I wish we waited to purchase. We purchased a Storkcraft (chelsea) crib before our child was born. He was in that crib for a few months. There was a recall on the drop-down slide of the crib. We returned the crib, thankfully target took it back. We bought this crib instead. Our child is now 6 months old and I feel much safer putting him in this crib versus a storkcraft crib. First and foremost, million dollar baby company has NEVER had a recall on cribs. Secondly, all parts are metal (storkcraft had a few parts that were made out of wood that were questionable how well they would hold up). This crib HAS a box spring! There are NO wooden slates like the storkcraft Chelsea crib we owned. My child feels more comforable in this crib--we are using the same mattress. For the past three months my child has been rolling over. In this crib for some reason it seems to have more space. He seems to NOT have his arms/legs stuck in this crib as much as the storkcraft even though he is more mobile now. Overall, I would NOT trust any drop down slide after reading about the recalls on them with storkcraft. This product is perfect and sturdy and does take a while for my husband and I to put together. The storkcraft was much easier to put together. But this crib seems to have been made and shipped a lot nicer! The finish seems to hold up much better as well. Overall, I wish I bought this crib to begin with. We love the fact that as our child gets older, we can move the box spring down 4 times versus only two times with strokcraft crib. Really the drawer doesn't bother me to much. I am just happy he is in safer crib. Also, I would not suggest a pregnant person putting this together with or without a spouse. It is very HEAVY!!

According to the package that the crib came in it states that the crib mattress should be at least 27 1/4 x 51 5/8 with a thickness of no more than 6 inches. If you plan to use this as a toddler bed then the dimensions are the same as above but with a thickness of 4 inches. Overall, the crib has a beautiful appearance and sharp finish. I would definitely recommend this bed to anyone who wants a "pottery barn" style look for a great value! We have since had a third child and had to borrow a crib from a friend until our big girls go to twin beds and I have found that I miss these cribs. The Emily crib is lower to the ground so no matter what height the mattress is at, you are no having to lift a sleeping baby over the side rail. You just bend into the crib and lay the baby down and no waking up...very nice! I will say that once my kids got their "two front teeth" they started to chew on the rail, but I am sure that every kid does that. I would probably invest in one of the rubber side edge protector things to prevent that. The crib still looks beautiful even with the teeth marks :) Also this crib is very easy to put together with good instructions for all those first time parents.

It wasn't as forgiving as I wanted. Overall, install was good. You need two people to help at certain steps. Product is solid. My 20 month kid can no longer shake it or jump on it like a springboard. No worries of it breaking apart either. I have it set t the lowest point and he can definitely climb it if he wanted to. I've got a climber. I am 5'9" and I can change the diaper and reach the bottom without a problem. The crib is beautiful. It looks really nice and does not look cheap. Cherry color is great. I am happy with this so I plan on buying the changer that comes with a drawer. Would really compliment this crib in his room. Need drawers also.

Shipping was quick and easy and it arrived without incident or damage. Assembly was fairly quick and non-complicated. The construction is solid and stable, it does not sway or rock or anything like that. We have total confidence in it being safe and secure for our child. It looks great! We love the espresso finish, and it matches up well with other furniture we have with the same finish. We haven't had any issues with the pine being easily scratched or dented. Our lil' one isn't big enough that we have had to adjust the mattress, so I cannot comment on that operation.

After it arrived, I opened the box to take a look. The pictures online do not give it justice. We chose Espresso for the color and it looks so much like aged oak. I can see why people rated it lower because of dents, but I understood that it's made of a pine and I know from experience while working with pine it can do this. No big deal to me honestly. I care more about function than look majority of the time. I think it had one dent and that part will never be seen unless someone is looking for it. It does take two people to put it together and the instructions aren't super clear, but two heads are better than one and we figured it out. It's a lot larger than I was expecting and am glad. Sturdy and attractive, the Davinci Emily is the perfect solution for a crib in those homes that have limited pacing. Well worth the money!
If I had one complaint, it would be that the directions for assembly are worthless. However, with such few parts, anyone with even a little bit of assembly knowledge can figure out how to put it together; and within an hour.
I also recommend purchasing the DaVinci Crescent 50 Coil Mini Crib Mattress as the thin mattress that comes with this crib is extremely insufficient (as is the case with most portable-type cribs).

However, when we received the box from UPS, it looked terrible and we were really afraid that the crib would be damaged. It looks fine, although we did have to touch up a few places with a stain pen. I would recommend that you inspect each piece carefully before putting the crib together. Also, the directions that came with the crib said nothing about the washers that were included in the hardware. We just sort of had to figure out to use them with the bolts. SO, if you order this crib and it comes with washers, don't forget to put them in, because the directions won't tell you to! We got this convertible crib for our two year old son who was ready to move into a bed. Since we thought a standard bed was too high off of the floor, we went with this crib since it converts to a toddler bed (and, eventually to a full-size bed) with a low mattress setting and partial rail to protect them from rolling out. It was everything we had hoped for! Since it's "crib-like" the transition was seamless. This is definitely not top notch furniture, though. Probably not something that you'd be able to keep for your grandkids. It's a softer wood and scratches easily (more noticeable with a darker stain), but, it is a great value. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is it scratches VERY easily and the wood underneath is not the same color so the scratches stand out. I think it scratches worse than the white one I have and the few marks it had could be easily touched up with white paint. We purchased this crib ahead of our adoption of a 4 month old baby girl and absolutely loved the style and look of it in ebony! It has been in full time use for about 17 months now and still looks almost as good as new. It does scratch easily, but surprisingly, we have had very few issues with that (maybe our little one just isn't into the chewing on the crib thing). The rails are a bit on the flimsy side and I have worried about breaking them on a few occasions as they flexed easily, but so far, all is intact. As other reviews have mentioned, our daughter has been able to occasionally get an arm stuck between the round bar in front and the crib, and recently I rescued her (heard her on the monitor) with a leg stuck through the crib slats and twisted so she couldn't get it out.
This has not happened much and is easily resolved as long as you have that monitor on! When we began hearing those ominous "thuds" recently, we realized we had to do something new. It seems to be easy for our daughter (starting at about 17-18 months) to get leverage on the side of the crib and fling herself out onto the floor. We ordered the crib tent II and were able to install it on this crib, although it doesn't fit as perfectly as it would on other styles. Unfortunately, we have already had a tear, sewn it, and then had our daughter get ahold of the zipper and completely jam it, so that we actually had to tear the door open to get her out of the crib! So, back to square one. We actually have the mattress lying on the floor in the crib at the moment which seems to work well...it is completely sealed and she can't get any part of herself under the rails, but it is definitely harder to get her in and out way down there. We are considering the transition to the todder bed with guard rail, so I will report on how that goes. I can't imagine this girl being loose on her own during the night in her room. Scary! All in all, we are very happy with the crib, it looks great, matches all decor and we are planning on purchasing a second one just like it for our next adoption, so enjoy but be aware of the issues!

The crib arrived in about 3 weeks but arrived all scratched up with several paint chips missing. The crib scratches really easily so I would maybe recommend maybe a different color other than white or keep extra white paint on hand. The crib is relatively easily to put together and can be done in less than 30 minutes. Also, the crib is very sturdy. If I could make one suggestion it would be not to purchase the Da Vinci mattress. I have found that the mattress is too soft and that my daughter who is small for her age, has easily made a head indentation in the mattress already and she often switches sides of the bed which says alot about the firmness of the mattress which brings up my concern about SIDS. And I can't even wear a belt anymore after seeing what my belt buckle did to it. (Maybe if I were taller or shorter I wouldn't have this problem? 5'5" buyers beware!) I don't want to think about when he starts getting teeth and chewing on it. He'll probably be able to gnaw off little pieces! I'm hoping that all of the damage will stay contained to the one front bar. I intend to convert it into a full size bed one day, and hopefully ONE of the pieces will remain undamaged to be used as a headboard. Of course, with my son using it as a bed, it probably won't stay undamaged. I hate to have to say this, but if I were buying again, I wouldn't get this seemingly perfect crib. I love it, and I really wish
114.) Crib and matching Emily mattress not a perfect fit!
Reviewed by: C. Pinchon Seattle WA

I bought this crib because of its great reviews on Consumer Reports and got the matching mattress because I figured that because they match there won't be a fit issue. WRONG! A few weeks after my son started to sleep in it, I noticed a 1.25" gap on the left/right side of the crib between the mattress and the crib slats. I wrote an email to the company and showed them photos of this gap. Their solution? They sent me ANOTHER Emily crib. Well, my husband I put it together to discover (gasp!) it still had a 1.25" gap!! I emailed the company again and got a phone call from one of their product managers. He looked up the measurements of the crib and told me that there's a certain allowable gap between the mattress and crib and the Emily crib is on the higher end of the allowable gap size. I have to admit, Million Dollar Baby did a great job with customer service. He apologized that there was a gap and offered me their Kalani bed instead for free, which does not have a gap according to the crib measurements. However, with one crib upstairs and another disassembled downstairs, I wasn't about to have them send me a third crib! So I declined. They had FedEx pick up the crib they sent over. Bottom line: know that this crib will have a gap with the Emily mattress. I stuffed three rolled up receiving blankets in the gap, just in case. Although I love the crib--the design, the sturdiness--I am disappointed to find out about this gap. I was always under the impression that the mattress should fit snugly on all sides in the crib. Buyer beware.
115.) Very Nice Crib, But...

I have to start off by saying looks wise I love this crib. Clean lines, goes perfectly with any "nursery look" I just LOVE it. It is also quite sturdy. Now the bad part. It damages very, VERY easily. Since the wood is extremely soft the slightest bump nicks the wood. Once dented the lighter interior of the wood shows through. If you want to keep in perfect condition so that it can survive through all the stages it is meant for do not move a laundry basket past it or have any thing near it that can move. I have two boys, aside from my daughter who the crib is for, and the two year old loves to climb he can get into the crib in about 15 seconds if that much . The other crib I had took him a bit longer to get into. So as far as looks goes this is a great crib. Long term use may be hindered by the weaknesses of the wood, and if you have a climber in the family make sure they are never out of your sight.

I like this crib but I have a couple issues. The wood is cheap I have cats and they have only tried to jump in a couple times, but the wood is wll scratched up. My daughter is now teething and she has been shaving off the wood with her teeth as well. I purchased some stuff to stop her from doing that, but it's an issue. When I put the mobile up it scratched the surface of the wood pretty bad as well. Also, The front rail is cracked and I haven't even used this crib for her much. I also don't like how far apart the slats are on the crib, she gets her leg caught. This may be normal but I don't like it.
117.) OK crib for the money

My husband and I had a little boy in 2004 and he never slept in a crib...went from the co-sleeper to our bed to his toddler bed - BUT it was a very difficult process. With our little girl (born 2006) we decided to try to get her moved into a crib by her first birthday...to make the transition to sleeping alone easier for everyone. I originally had my eye on a more expensive crib but thought that a crib is a crib and there is no need to spend so much additional $$$ for a place where (hopefully) the baby will just be sleeping. We bought this crib and couldn't believe the price. It was shipped to us quickly. All the parts were packed in protective foam/paper. It was not difficult to put together (my husband and [...] son put it together) and even though there were several pieces that were not found ANYWHERE in the instructions (and therefore were not used) we still did not find it difficult. The color is lighter than I expected but not significantly different. My daughter (and my son) both like to hang out in the crib. One of the first things that my son did, however, is bite the stationary side circular bar; the bite left obvious indentations in the wood. There were also a few scratches in the wood (just from putting it together). I am not happy with the finish on the wood and I think that they could definitely do a better job. If I would have known how easy it scratches -I would probably have gotten a more expensive crib...but you get what you pay for. All in all the structure of the crib is sound and it has made a nice addition to the nursery. If you are looking for something that is going to last through several children, though, I would pay a little extra and get something with a more solid finish.
118.) Nice product, poor assembly materials

Not a bad crib in general, but my major complaint is in putting it together. Every bolt and screw has a hex head. This is such a pain and only using the included hex wrench is a pain. Do yourself a favor and buy a hex set from your hardware store, it will be a little easier. I don't know why they wouldn't just make them with a phillips head. After some frustration, it went together and feels solid.

120.) decent, but the graco lauren is better
Reviewed by: sa232650 Del Mar, CA United States

This crib is acceptable. I've had for a few years now. It is somewhat inexpensive. The DaVinci Emily scratches pretty easily. Most cribs are easy to assemble and take apart. Attaching the spring for the mattress is where you generally want two people during assembly. For the price, a Graco Lauren is a better deal and I think the Lauren is nicer. My wife prefers the Graco Lauren since it has a drop side. A drop side helps when a baby gets to about 20 pounds. Lifting a child into and out of a crib is sometimes awkward, particularly when they get separation anxiety.
The fact that the Emily is convertible is decent. Many cribs are convertible. Many people will have a second child. You can reuse a crib or buy another one if you live in a two story house (one for each floor). A real toddler bed will look nicer than any convertible. Overall, I like convertible cribs since they give you options.
Also, don't waste you money on buying a bumper for any crib for an infant under 1.5 years old. They are a proven safety hazard despite that it makes things "look better". I'd rather not risk a baby suffocating.
121.) BEWARE!! SHOP A LITTLE!

First off, this is written by a customer that purchased the crib and not an employee. (just read some of the reviews) very entertaining! This was rated a very safe crib and that is the only reason it is not going back to the company that manufactured it. This was the worst piece of equipment that I have ever assembled. The wood is extremely too soft. None of the hardware matches the pre-drilled holes, that it needs too in order to assemble. The stickers which are in place to designate the parts, are on the inside of the joining part! So after you assemble you have no idea which piece is which. The manual has no actual instructions, just pictures. Would not be an issue if the crib was good quality. Just me assembling it produced several cuts and scrapes in the finish. It does look nice, however so does a nice new Hyundai, but most of us know we would rather have the Lexus.:) Just be careful shop around, I WOULD NOT
recommend this crib!
122.) Entrapment Hazard
Reviewed by: E. I. Holly Springs, NC

We bought this crib several months before our new baby was born, and didn't put a mattress in it until about a month after she was born. I wish we had done so sooner so that we would have seen the very serious problem with this crib in time to return it...
When a standard-sized mattress is used in this crib, the gap between the sides and the mattress create a serious entrapment danger. I have researched, expecting this crib to have been recalled, but it does not seem to have been. The quality also isn't very good. The wood is very weak, especially in the small slats on the sides. I read that it takes a very long time, and many injuries/deaths for a crib to be recalled, so I suggest finding a different, safer crib.
