We have owned a Protect-A-Bed Premium Mattress Protector since we purchased our new mattress when we got married, two and a half years ago. At first we were a little put off by the price, seeing as how we could have purchased another brand for at least half the price. The retailer ensured us that it was the best mattress protector on the market; and we have come to agree with him.
First of all, we didn't want a bulky mattress protector that would change the feel of the very nice mattress we had just purchased. And we didn't want something that would make us sweat, or would crinkle, or any of the other annoying characteristics generally associated with mattress protectors.
We did, however, want something that would protect our mattress, so that it would remain under warranty. We also wanted something that, in turn, would protect us.
We have found ourselves to be so pleased with the Protect-A-Bed Premium mattress protectors that we have purchased one for every bed in our house.
The top cover is a small weave cotton terry cloth fabric, which is backed by a polyurethane film, which is waterproof and breathable and acts as a protective barrier (for both you and the mattress). The sides are a stretchable cotton that fits the mattress snuggly, allowing no indication that it is there once the sheet is on the bed.
If you're looking for a mattress "pad". This product is not for you.
If you're looking for "undectable" peace of mind. This product is for you.

Finally, a product that does what it's supposed to! I purchased a new mattress and wanted to protect it from the occassional accident my dog has when she's not feeling well. She recently had a urinary tract infection and had 3 accidents on my bed in 1 day!!! I was pleasantly suprised to see that not only was the urine fully absorbed but the waterproof backing of the mattress pad showed absolutely no sign of being penetrated by the urine. Tossed it in the laundry and came out like brand new! It's called a mattress pad but in reality, it's just a little thicker than a sheet and doesn't make plastic-y crinkle sounds like a vinyl sheet. Both my mattress and my dog are as good as new and I'm thankful another mattress hasn't been ruined. THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT AND WORTH THE INVESTMENT!
3.) Lots of pee, absolutely no leaks!

We are currently practicing EC with our second child. Our daughter also learned to potty this way. We bought this mattress protector with our king size bed over 2 and a half years ago and it is still working! Somebody pees on or spills pee on our bed at least twice a month and never a drop has hit our mattress. I love this product! I bought a cheaper version (to put on while the protect-a-bed is being washed)about six months ago and it already has holes in the polyurethane. I highly recommend paying the extra $$ to get Protect-a-Bed!
The added bonus is that it doesn't change the feel of our mattress, or make the mattress less safe for co-sleeping. Padded mattress tops can be too soft for young babies to sleep on.

(not caused by the cover, only menopause) no crinkly sounds or plastic feeling under linens.
5.) Protected my bed from a leaky ceiling!
Reviewed by: K. Grandstrand Chicago, IL

I bought this with my mattress because the saleman said that the company (protect-a-bed) would pay for a new mattress if anything happened to my mattress while this was on my bed. This was my first time buying a brand-new bed, and I wanted to make sure it lasted me as long as possible. Last week, we got a ton of rain (it rained ALL day) and a crack in my ceiling turned into a leak, which turned into a hole. Anywhere I put my bed in my room, it would have been under the crack. But my bed didn't get wet at all! and there was a huge puddle on my sheets. I'm so glad I bought this, because my fairly new bed would have been ruined if I didn't have it!
6.) A must if you have young children

Though I put my children to sleep in their own beds they love to sleep in the bed with me (they sneak into bed almost every night at 3am---but that's another story). My 4 year old has accidents that usually results in me having a dream about water. If it were not for this mattress cover, I would have to buy a new mattress every month. Not only does the cover protect the mattress but it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO comfortable. Much more so than the plastic cover that I replaced. It is a bit more expensive but worth it. I would buy again. I actually have two. The first one I bought about 6 years ago and it is still in very good condition even after being washed many, many times. Buy this one--don't waist your money with others.
7.) Protects against cats with a "problem"
Reviewed by: kitty 47 Russellville, AL United States

We have always been a multi-cat family, but until recently have never had a problem with "deposits" in unwanted places, namely the beds. One of my neutered male cats deliberately (spitefully?) will urinate on the rug, anything plastic or leather, the beds, or basically anyplace he feels like it. This only occurs at certain times of the month-new moon and full moon madness, anyone? Why do we put up with it-I don't know other than we love him despite his badness. Anyway, I have tried smaller waterproof covers (from Wal-Mart) which work OK except I have to use 3 of them to cover the bed. This cover is wonderful. As a precaution I put one of the other covers under it, and sure enough Itzy left a large puddle during the last full moon. The urine did not leak through and kept the bed dry. I should add that I put the cover OVER all the sheets/blankets since it's very roomy. I have had the cover a month and have been washing it on a weekly basis and have had no problem whatever with it melting or losing its waterproofness. I wash it on warm with a stain removal setting, and dry it on permanent press. I'm so happy with it I'm about to order another one so I don't have to wait for the laundry to finish to cover the bed. If I find it does what other reviewers have mentioned I will be sure to update my review, but for now I couldn't recommend it more highly.
8.) Mattress Protection

These are the same mattress protectors that are offered at mattress stores, but you'll save by purchasing on your own. Most mattresses today are not flippable so a totally encased mattress is unnecessary. We just purchased a very deep queen size mattress and the protect-a-bed premium mattress protector fit smoothly because of the deep elasticized pockets provided. It does not "just-fit", it fits with extra fabric that covers the entire corners and sides and slips underneath the mattress evenly. The top feels like a very soft, smooth terry-cloth and is undetectable under your sheets. I haven't spilled anything on the mattress yet so I can't attest to it's waterproof ability (I'm sure they'll demonstrate that for you if you ask at a mattress store), but it's nice to have this washable option for keeping my mattress fresh and stain-free.

I purchased this product after purchasing a new mattress set for our home. The salesman at the mattress store strongly suggested using this particular pad on the bed. I declined his offer at the store because I felt I could get the same pad for less online - and was right! I found the exact same bed pad and am glad I took his advice in getting it. It's great protection for the mattress with a waterproof underliner yet extremely comfortable.
If you are in need of a high quality bed pad I strongly suggest this one.

I was skeptical about buying this waterproof mattress cover sight-unseen as I was concerned about it being "plastic-y" and/or not fitting my new (large) mattress very well. I was very pleasantly surprised when I unpacked and placed the pad on my queen-sized mattress. It is not "plastic-y" at all, but is made of a very soft and flexible fabric. The surface is velveteen-like and the sides are somewhat mesh-like. It easily fit over my mattress, no forcing or tugging, but it is not slack either. The stitching is tight and uniform and overall it seems to be a high quality product. I did not give this product 5 stars as I have not tested whether it is indeed waterproof. Assuming it is waterproof, I recommend this product without hesitation, especially for those who want to protect their new mattress from stains to maintain the warranty.

i got this product when i bought my new mattress. i have never used such a product, but i thought that i'd try it since the sales guy said it'd help protect the warranty on the mattress too. so i gave it a shot.
i've used it for 3 years now, and it's been great. it's not a "pad" but a protective covering. it is very breathable and the mattress stays coool, which is important to me. it's quiet, and fits my tall mattress nicely.
somehow, i managed to tear the backside a little bit, and so i called the number for the 10 year warranty. "Dennis" on the other end of the phone was extremely polite and helpful, and is throwing in a replacement for me tomorrow!
i'm definitely glad that i have this since i've managed to spill stuff on my bed and it's protected it great. my mattress still looks new.
the product is great, and their willingness to honor their commitment promtly and without hassle has definitely made me consider their other products in the future, and more importantly to write a positive review here to endorse their product to other people.

After my roommate's dog peed on my brand new bed and I spent hours cleaning the spot I decided it was probably a good idea to get a mattress protector so I wouldn't have to go through that again.
I wanted one that didn't feel too much like plastic and was somewhat comfortable while being waterproof. This fits my needs. I can't tell you if it's officially waterproof but there are two layers on it: the bottom is a plastic waterproof sheet and the one on top is a comfortable cottony top so it's comfortable to sleep on. I have officially slept on it and you can obviously tell the difference in feeling but it's not uncomfortable. You'll get used to it. It definitely feels a lot better than cheap mattress protectors.
I would definitely recommend this protect to protect your mattress. You don't know how much work it takes to get the smell of pee out of your bed. Prevention is key.

The product works fine, but i've gone through 3 of them. You have to dry them with no heat. The first one i ruined was my own fault as I didnt read the directions and put them in my dryer with the regular heat setting. The second one I used the medium heat setting as the directions show and it melted that one as well. I have a new washer and dryer now and just ruined the last protector last night when I had set the dryer to "low" temperature. The directions should say no heat cause in my experience any sort of heat will melt that waterproof material, making the product useless. Either that or the dryers i've had use more heat then average dryers. For anyone that buys this product i'd be very cautious when washing and drying it. Other than that it works fine, but in my opinion is slighty overpriced for what you get.
22.) Do not wash in hot water

We've loved this mattress protector for almost two years now. When we finally decided we should wash it, I followed the directions and washed it in hot water. Evidently my water is too hot; the plastic (or plastic-ish) liner melted all together. The product is unusable. After the fact, I read on the protect-a-bed website that they should be sterilized in 120 degree water. That isn't exactly hot. Anyhow, if you use just warm water, I'm sure it'll hold up for you!

Bought this with my new mattress and it did not work. Got the pillow protectors too, and they didn't work either. The pee still leaked through - but not a lot, but mattress and pillows still damp and smell like urine.
Called the customer service, they were very pleasant and sent me a new pad and two new pillow protectors. I mailed them the ruined mattress protector and pillow protectors at the cost of $10 for them to "test" it. They said there was a crack in the lining.
I put on the new mattress protector that protect-a-bed mailed me (without washing it), my toddler peed the bed again... and again, it did not protect it. Urine still leaked through just like before. I did not even wash it when I got it, so there was NOTHING done to void the usage of the pad. I took it straight out of the packaging and put it on the mattress. I no longer have faith in this product and am in the process of trying to get my money back.
We've purchased other waterproof mattress protectors before and THOSE work fine (we have 3 others). We only got protect-a-bed because the salesman at the mattress store recommended it highly when we bought the new mattress.
24.) Good Product--Terrible Customer Service
Reviewed by: Goliath Dayton, OH

If you buy this, do not expect the company to stand behind its warranty and cover your mattres. The product itself is pretty good but because I bought my PAB cover online two days AFTER I bought my new mattress, they will not pay for any damages to the mattress should the mattress protector fail. I spoke to a rep from the company and confirmed this. The mattress had no stains, I slept on it without the cover for two nights, and they will not honor their warranty.
So, based on other reviews I have seen about these things not being completely waterproof, if you're looking for guarenteed protection of your mattress investment, I would look elsewhere.

I bought one of these mattress protectors for my new Tempurpedic Deluxe Bed at the bedding store I bought the bed at. On the first night with my new bed, I woke up in the middle of the night because I was so hot. I thought it was the Tempurpedic mattress, but once I took this mattress protector off the bed, I found I slept great. This pad has some soft of impermeable vapor barrier and doesn't seem to allow the foam in the mattress to breath properly. I almost returned my bed because I was so uncomfortable, but I discovered it was actually this mattress pad. I'm just sorry that I'm out the $70 I spent on the Protect-A-Bed. There really should be some sort of warning label that says "do not use on Tempurpedic or other foam mattresses" on the package.
But at least I am now very happy with my new bed. Maybe I'll try the mattress protector made by Tempurpedic.

They sent me back another mattress protector. Then after using the second mattress protector, it leaked after 3 times (in one week, my son is potty training). They told me to send it back to them again. They analyzed it...Guess what they told me it was again my fault, because of the dryer. Even following step by step their care instructions they find a way to tell us it's our fault (only 3 wash). Plus I have to pay for a mattress cleaning because of their bad and fragile product). Our child is a heavy overnight wetter and at age 4+ is still in overnight (heavy duty) diapers. She still leaks through the diaper a few times a month. Well, her mattress is now all stained because I didn't realize that the supposedly waterproof mattress protector was leaking through to the mattress pad. Her mattress has several sizeable stains. And at about the same time we noticed some (lighter) stains on the king sized bed from when she comes into our bed at night. Don't waste your money on this mattress pad.

I have a senior cat who urinates whenever the feeling hits him, and wanted to protect my expensive investment. I wash the covers weekly, when I change the sheets, according to the instructions (hot wash, warm dry). Today the cat had an "accident" on the bed, and to my horror, it had gone right through to the mattress!!! After taking the cover off the bed, I spread it on the floor & poured some water on it here & there - the water goes right through. The company's website states that the cover should last through over 200 washes; mine was washed ten times, tops. I only hope the second one lasts long enough for me to buy some new covers - the quilted, plastic-backed kind I always used to use!! I do NOT recommend this product. It is expensive and NOT worth it!

I don't think it is, the mattress cover looks like it has never been washed when I wash it every week. Customer service claims that it's a tanning product that I used and when I don't use any at all, then claims it was detergent and my dryer is causing it, my washer and dryer are less than a year old. I wash this thing correctly like the label says. All I hear is excuses, it never said on the labels that it will turn brown. This thing leaked through when my daughter had an accident and ruined my mattress, I just hope it will come out.

I own one of these that I purchased with a new foam matress. I purchased it to prevent damage from bed wetting. The salesman assured me that the product would protect the bed and the warranty even included professional cleaning if the pad failed. However, I recently discovered that the warranty is actually VERY weak. Unfortunately urine leaked through the matress pad one night. That morning I tired to get warranty service. I found that customer service is closed on weekends. Then I read the warranty details on the website. The pad must be mailed back to the manufacturer for inspection. Then they determine if they will honor the warranty. That means the matress will not get cleaned anytime soon. In addition I discovered that the pad's care instructions are ridiculous. It can not be placed in the dryer alone. It must be dried on low heat along with towels or sheets. That information is not included on the care instruction tag sown into the pad. The manufacturer will not honor the warranty if they determine the pad was dried alone. I ended up renting a carpet cleaning machine to wash my matress. The pad completely failed to perform. In addition it can not even withstand typical washing and drying. I recommend that consumers stay clear of this overpriced inferior product.

I was aware of the delicacy of the protector at the time of purchase and have never washed or dried it on any setting other than low, and never by itself. Further, I've never even used a harsh detergent, much less bleach. The mattress protector has now failed twice to stop urine from soaking into my brand new mattress. As you may well know, stains can and will void a mattress warranty. So buyer beware. I cannot comment on the customer service as I've only just sent them an email, but since the page never loaded after I submitted it, I don't know if it went through.
