We just bought this bed for our 2 year old son who loved his crib. Well, one night in this bed and he loves it. The first night he kept climbing out of the bed and walking around the house, but the second night he slept all the way through. The bed is great with a crib mattress because the sides are high enough that he doesn't role out. Shipping is out of control but JcPenneys had the bed for the same price as the store near us and we got it sooner.

Our one year-old son adores this bed. He had only slept about 3 nights soundly through the night in his crib. He's been in this bed for 5 nights now and he's slept through each one! He is walking and runs into his room and jumps on the thing. It was very easy to put together and looks fantastic. We highly recommend this bed.

We just purchased the stock car convertible bed for our 3 year old son. We have been trying for the last 11 months to get him out of our room and into his. He had another toddler bed but was scared to be in his room and has been camped out in our floor. We have tried everything to get him in his room and we just thought that it would never happen. We saw the bed and thought it was worth a try. We have had it for 5 days now, we let him help put it together and place the stickers on the frame. He has been sleeping, undisturbed, for all 5 days and all his naps as well in his new race car bed!!!!!! We love it and Step 2 for making such a great, cool looking product.

We bought this bed seven months ago for our son's first birthday. He loves this bed. Three months ago the bed became covered with water, ceiling, and insulation, thanks to a hurricane. The mattress was the only part of bed that had to be replaced. It has been wonderful for us to have the option to use a crib mattress or twin mattress as we could not afford to purchase a new mattress at the same time as we purchased the bed. We liked being able to apply the stickers ourselves as we have left off ones we didn't like and added some custom vinyl decals that we had made just for our son.

I like may of you saw this bed online, but did not want to pay the large shipping charge. What I did was went to Step 2's webpage - www.step2.com and used the store locater to find the one's nearest to me. I then called the different stores to see if they carried the bed or would be able to order one for me for a smaller shipping charge. I did find a store who ordered it for me and saved me $$$ on the shipping. Hope this may help some of you. Our 3 year old son loves the bed!

I bought this bed for my 3 year old and he thinks it's the coolest bed ever. Very simple to assemble. It actually took longer to put on the stickers than to put the bed together. I highly recommend this bed!

We just bought this bed for our 2 year old. He LOVES IT! He is so proud of it. The bed was easy to put together and seems to be of excellent quality. I really like that I can use the crib mattress now and a twin later on. It is low to the ground so my son has no problems getting in and out of it.
I ordered the bed through the Step 2 website. It is $250 there but the shipping is only $69 and there was no tax. So, that was the cheapest option for us.
I highly recommend this bed!

I feel that buying this bed was the best thing that we did for our son. He loves it so much he couldn't wait until my husband and I were finished putting it together which was very easy. One of my associates wants to buy one for her son. I can't believe how much of a difference this bed made in my son's life. Creating a bed out of a car was the most incredible decision.

I purchased this bed in a hurry after my husband insist that our 2 year old son be put into his own bed, before the month was up. He had been sleeping with us since he out grew his bassinet. I purchased the bed from Sears (a big mistake), and months later I discovered I could have purchased it directly from the Step 2 website for $100.00 less. However, my son enjoys his bed. He does not use many words in expressing that fact, but he enjoys lying at the foot of his bed and rolling his match boxcars around the track. I was worried about the transition to his own bed, so I camped out on the floor next to his bed for 2 weeks, after the 2 weeks, I started sitting in a rocker next to him until he went to sleep, it worked! He is out of our bed. Since I spent so much on the bed it was nice to be able to use his toddler mattress for a while. I put racecar pillows on the side of my son's bed so he would not fall in the empty space between the toddler mattress and the High center side rails (the space goes away with a twin mattress). I put the bed together myself in less than an hour while my husband was at work. I highly recommend the bed.

I really think this bed is cool...and my son would love it. I just can't see paying $165.00 for shipping. That's almost what the bed cost. Isn't that a little much?? Where did everyone else purchase their bed?? It states online only purchase, but I'm wondering if it's sold anywhere.

When we took it out of the box we were surprised that it only had a few pieces to put together. The bed was put together within about 3 minutes, then my daughter put in the few screws and then grandma got to put the stickers on, all of it was done within a half an hour. We were so happy about that because we all really dread putting anything together.

My grandson is 3 and a half and he has been sleeping with mommy or grandma and grandpa for the last year or so, well as I type this he is IN HIS OWN RACE CAR BED!!!!!! We honestly thought we would never get him back into his own room! Much to our surprise this worked. He had another toddler bed but didn't want to sleep in it.

We live in Canada and we purchased this item from Sears, no shipping cost if you have it delivered to the store and you pick it up. If you want it delivered it would only be $50.

I have 20 month old twin boys who were really attatched to baby things (cribs, pacifires, diapers, bottles ect.) so we had advise to take them to Toys R Us to pick out a bed. At first my sons wanted the yellow car, but their rooms blue and red, and I didnt really like it. Well than my son saw this one, what a change! They both declared it was theirs (I think because of the match box track, they love it). So finnally we shelled out the money for two of these stock car beds, and I think it was worth it! We still have it with a todder matress, and put navy blue crib bumpers along the edges where theres plastic. They also have Nascar bedding. The cars are adorable and fit perfectly in their room, we also didnt need a bed rail because in the toddler way, its lower and those sides are a rail. We put on all the stickers and even personalized those stickers that you can take off and put anywhere, with their names. Our boys have been sleeping soundly and I can imagine these beds atleast lasting a good 5-7 years, atleast. They are very durable and much nicer than the other, cheaper car beds. My sons are forever jumping and rolling down these. I love them, and my boys love them, what more could a mother ask for?

Bought this for my two year old, he loved it immediately, loves going to bed in it.
The sides are built higher, so your toddler does not roll out of bed, which is great, no rails needed.

The only bad thing was the assembly. As with most step 2 products, I am not thrilled with their directions, or ease of assembly.

My son is 20 months old and has had no problem switching out of his crib and into this bed. I agree with other reviewers that the gaps around the crib size mattress do pose an issue. I bought a couple of foam pool noodles to fill in the space. Two noodles side by side fill the gap perfectly and the height of them is flush with the mattress. Now I don't need to worry about my son moving around and falling into those gaps and waking himself up. Other than that, this is a great bed and I highly recommend it (especially if your child loves cars!).

You just can't go wrong with this bed for your little one! My 19-month old was already trying to climb out of his crib even with the mattress set at the lowest possible level. I knew it was time for a toddler bed at that point. Although a child can stay in a crib until he or she is 2 or so, the crib can also become dangerous for the active toddler who loves to climb and bounce all over. My concern with a toddler bed was that almost every one available still has the potential for the child to fall out of bed. The rails only go a short ways down the length of the bed on a typical toddler bed. With this Stock Car Bed, your little one is not going to fall out of bed due to how the sides are designed in the shape of a car. You rest easy and so does your little one!

When we brought this bed home and put it together, my 19-month old was delighted. His eyes lit up, he pointed to the bed, and he said, "Car!" Immediately he was ready to play on this bed. He didn't want to jump around like he did in the crib. He was content and happy to play on it -- and if he's happy and content, so am I! Naturally when you transition from a crib to a toddler bed, you will have to get them back in bed several times for a little while, but sending my little one back to bed has not been difficult. He loves this bed. Nap time is great, too, because he will even take himself to bed when he gets tired. He can easily climb into and out of the bed by himself.

The age recommendation for this bed is 2 and up, but it has been perfect for my 19-month old. It will use your standard crib-sized mattress, and then when you are ready for a twin size mattress, you simply change out the crib mattress for the twin size one. Thus, this is a bed that you can use for many years, and I anticipate that we will have a lot of years of use from this sturdy bed.

I have no complaints whatsover. Although it's rather pricey, for me, it's worth every bit that I paid for it. If you are interested in purchasing this bed, I recommend that you try to arrange to pick the bed up yourself rather than have it shipped. This is what I did, because shipping charges can be astronomical at over $200.

One recommendation I would make in using this bed with the crib mattress is to roll blankets up and place on the sides of the bed. That way, when your little one gets to the edge of this bed, he or she will not be on plastic, but a soft blanket. I found it very easy to roll up some blankets and set them in the sides.

It's a snap to change sheets on this bed, and you can use twin size comforters and blankets on the bed. I give this 5 stars -- it's a purchase I don't regret.

My quest for this bed for my 4 yr old son:
For the last 2 years my son who is 4 now has had the Little Tikes blue toddler bed that was a freebie courtesy of the neighbor behind me, and sadly, he never slept in it, or never slept a full night in it. He would rather sleep in my bed or on the couch. I'd move him to the car bed, but he would just wake up and want back on the couch or my bed. I tried everything, including sitting in a chair next to him til he fell asleep.

I did not want to pay full price for this, so I checked Craigslist, and found one and got it for $150.
It was money well spent, he loves this bed so much, we've had it 6 months now and he's been sleeping in his own room, in his own bed since the day we got it.

A funny twist to this was when I was looking at it online, my son saw the picture of it and was screaming how he didn't want the bed, said it was ugly. (I knew he'd change his mind) When we got there to pick it up, he was quiet, and on the way back home, the sky was getting dark clouds, he told us to hurry up, he didn't want his new car bed to get wet! And when we got it home, I pushed the pieces together in the living room without putting it together, he said, "momma, I don't think this is ugly, I think it's cool!" he was pretending he was driving in it (loud race car sound effects and all) and couldn't wait to be able to fall asleep in it that night. As he was laying in his new bed he said, "momma, thank you for buying me this bed". =O)

One thing to take note, don't get a cheap, thin mattress, you will need a nice thick, soft comfortable one. It does not have room for a box spring, only room for the mattress. I found a nice newer pillowtop mattress on Craigslist too for $75.

Almost a year since we've had this bed, my son still loves this bed, and loves going to sleep at night in it!
It's the coolest boys (or girls)bed ever! I love it in his room!

I checked all over and refused to pay the outrageous shipping charges Even when some charged 199.00 it was still cheaper to purchase it at ToysRus for 260.00. I called they had them or get them in their shipments every week. Picked up at local store....no shipping fee...and got 10.00 discount promo (babiesRus...toddler furniture?)Reminds me of the old firebird autos. Google for others who ship for 60.00. Good luck.

I never thought I would get my 3 year old out of his crib without him ending up in my bed. Well, he loves car so I bought this car bed. It was very easy to put together (only 6 screws) I did it myself. It is larger than a standard toddler bed which makes it easier to lay with him. The crib mattress inserts into the bed leaving the side rails higher than a standard toddler bed. He was very comfortable and slept through the night with no problem. He even slept later than usual. My husband and I couldn't believe it! This was really worth the money. I ordered it directly fron Step 2, the shipping was much less. Overall, it was a great investment!!!

We bought this bed for our son at Christmas (then 16 mos)and he loves it! He HATED his crib and slept with us for almost a year. We decided to get him a "big boy bed" even after cautions from the doctor. We knew he was ready. He slept in it the first night and hasn't been back to my bed since! We purchased this bed yesterday at Toys R Us for my 19 month old son. The assembly was not that difficult, but time consuming. I suggest using a power drill instead of the screwdriver. It saved a great deal of time. The stickers took the most time to apply but make the car look authentic!

As soon as I put the crib mattress into the bed he began putting his sleeptime animals and blankets in there. He was so excited for this bed. He went right to sleep and stayed in the bed all night! I thought it would take much longer for him to adjust to a bed!

My wife and I purchased our (4) year old this bed a couple of weeks ago from a local TOYS R US (...). I thought it would fit in the back of my Chevy Equinox. I was wrong. Luckily a store associate tied it securely to the roof of my vehicle and I drove it approximately (15) mile home. The wife put it together in an hour or so. Very sturdy with the twin matress. My son loves it and we are now in the process of redecorating his room with a NASCAR theme. Highly recommed this bed for all Stock Car Lovers and their boys.

We agonized over what type of bed to put our son in when he turned 2. We finally decided on this bed because they were only on the market for 3 years and you couldn't find any for sale used. We figured that meant it was a long lasting product. Our son sleeps great in his bed. We just recently switched to a twin bed matress and it is great! What a fun and wonderful way to transition a little guy from a crib to a bed. All of our friends kids are a lot older than our son. They are jeleous at ages 8 - 10 that they don't have a car bed!! The car is much bigger than I thought. I would recommend reviewing the measurements prior to purchasing as it does take a significant amount of space. Despite that, I would purchase this again. My son (2 1/2) really loves this bed. The transition from his crib to the bed went much better than I thought. The bed comes with A LOT of stickers. I used a couple of them on the wall rather than the bed. I wish there had been some stickers for the little race track at the foot of the bed.

My son loves his new bed. It went together without too much trouble and the instructions were pretty clear for setting it up. We weren't going to bother putting 4 sheets of stickers on to the bed, just picked out some of the ones he really liked, although the sheet with the car's number seems to be missing. The box it was delivered in was the biggest I've ever been shipped, but the shipping process went very smoothly.

We bought this bed for our 2 year old grandson. We didn't even have it completely put together and he was amazed. We couldn't keep him away from it. As soon as it was completed, he was in it jumping up and down. He has slept in it by himself every night, something he never did before, at least not all night long. The price was great - for those that don't want to pay for the shipping, buy it online through Wal-Mart and have it shipped to your nearest store. Shipping is free. You will have to have a truck to pick it up as the box is very large. It was easily unpacked in the truck and pieces were brought in, which by the way are not that heavy. Extremely easy to assemble - we had it put together totally in about 30 min. We would definately buy this again.

We bought this bed for our 2 yr old son about a month ago and his excitement level is the same. He is so enthusiastic while going to bed unlike the times before we had it.

It is a very nice bed and I bought for 269$ including the shipping. It is very easy to assemble and is light in weight yet durable. It holds upto 300 lbs so one of us can lie down with my son till he goes to sleep as he is still getting used to it. Kids won't outgrow this since its a twin size that is 6 ft in length approx.

I would definitely recommend this to others.

This bed is fast and easy to assemble - no tools required. It consists of 4 large interlocking plastic panels (2 ends, 2 sides), 4 wheels, and 2 heavy fiberboard underlay support panels. I wasn't sure from the catalog description if the bed consisted of a wooden frame with a plastic car motif or was all plastic but it is made from all heavy molded plastic. The sides of the car are high enough to act as a safety feature when a toddler mattress is used but they will probably be even with the top of a twin-sized mattress when it is placed in the bed (which will cover the play time race track feature.)

My 3 year old grandson was thrilled with it, as was his 18 month old sister. We can not attach the wheels as my grandson finds them of great entertainment to take on and off! Unfortunately he did not want to leave his parents bedroom to sleep alone but we hope once he settles into the new house and becomes more familiar with it that he will make the transition to his own bed.

The bed shipped and arrived much faster than the original estimate given by Amazon too.

This bed is large! I bought it because it could use both twin and crib mattresses. However, there is a big gap between the crib mattress and the edges of the bed. I will need to buy pillows to fill in the gap. (My little guy likes to cuddle into the corners of his bed and these corners would not be comfortable without padding.) The bed is really impressive. Very solid. It does come in several pieces and is easy to put together, but requires more than one person. Overall, great item.

We bought this bed for a 2-year old grandson. I am very pleased with the construction. It was very easy to assemble and is very sturdy. We skipped the toddler bed option and used a twin mattress. He loves it. One downside is that it is too high for him to climb in on his own but once he grows taller that will not be a problem. I highly recommend this product.

I just wanted to write a quick review. This bed is pretty nice. It is the typical step2 product that we all know and love. The plastic is very durable. It is vibrant and fun. The thing I wanted to note is that I feel like it looks so much better in person than it does in the pictures. I was sort of apprehensive about getting this bed for my son for the twin version and now that we have it in his room, I'm glad we have it. I was thinking of getting the Little Tikes blue race car bed, but I am now very glad I got this one.

We got a great deal on this at that major toy chain after Christmas (gift cards, coupons, sale, etc)... We finally set it up recently as our 2 year old son was getting out of his crib at will anyway.

Bed assembled very quickly and easily, and he loves it... he actually asks to go lay down in his "race car bed"!

I think it is overpriced for what is basically 5 pieces of molded plastic and some fiberboard. What made it worthwhile for us (besides the deal we got), was that it is convertible from a toddler bed to a twin bed.

This bed was purchased for our soon-to-be 3 year old boy who is rough as they come! Though not allowed to jump, I saw him jumping on and off and the bed seems to hold up great. This car bed is durable and strong. I was also surprised how BIG it was! One thing, it says you can put the crip mattress inside it or the twin. We have the crib mattress and it is very small small compared to the bed. There is a lot of plastic around the side which would normaly be covered up with a twin size mattress. But, I had extra blankets to put around his crib size mattress and now he doesn't lay on any plastic. When we get the TWIN size mattress we will be all set. I see this bed lasting for years to come. We are happy we purchased it! Also the delivery people were great with it also.

He needs to be promoted to his own bed, but I am worried it will not be a smooth transition. I researched place to get this bed for over 2 days and called at least 35 places. Nobody stocked this bed, and most places could not get it. They almost force you to buy it online and pay outlandish shipping. I finally found a store 2 hours away that could order it for me at a price of 229 for the stock car and 249 for the lifestyle twin. If you live close to pittsburgh: Toy Heaven 814 371 2244. I even called the factory but they would not match their retailers price!! Good Luck

I bought this for my grandson, who just turned three last month. He was ecstatic about the bed and couldn't wait for it to be assembled. He has been excited about it everyday since he started using it two weeks ago.
Assembly was very straight forward, except the method of attaching the wheels to the body is a single screw and it is very difficult to hit the intended hole on the other side. Once attached the wheels are not very secure, and if you accidentally over tighten the screw (easily done since you are screwing into more plastic) you are out of luck.

The bed comes with two particle board foundations for the mattress which lay horizontally across the sides and they are squared at the corners, but the headboard end of the bed is rounded, so the particle board foundation doesn't fit flush into the corners, causing the particle board foundation to overlap the bed's center support...this prevents the mattress from lying completely flat. Time to get out the router and trim the corners to fit.

The box the bed came in is very large and took up most of my F-150's short bed...make sure you take a truck to the store if you plan on purchasing one of these beds. I purchased this from a Toys R Us store in Norfolk, Virginia. The store personnel were very friendly and helpful, which I find rare here in Virginia after being transplanted here from the Midwest three years ago.

Make sure you purchase a quality mattress for this bed since you cannot use a box springs...take care of your kid's back!

In my mind this is a much better value that the Little Tikes Sports Car Twin bed, which does not have all the cool decals that this one includes. The manufacture just needs to make a couple of minor improvements to make it near flawless.

We got this bed for our 2 year old son, who was just leaving his crib, and he LOVES it. He sat in it the first day and just pretended to drive for hours.
The only problem I have with it is when you use a crib mattress there are 4 inch gaps around the top and sides. The first night my son rolled off the mattress into the gap and woke up. We fixed the problem with a few blankets stuffed in the gaps, and the next night had no problems. I just wish I could have seen that before I bought it.
It was real easy to put together, but I will agree use a power screw driver and save your arms!

This is a great bed! It looks so cute in his new nascar themed room. He plays in it all day! I would not reccomend using a toddler/crib matress in this bed, because there is a "gutter" (or large gaps)on all sides if you do. I have found my son in these "gutters" a few times a night, one night his head was on the race track! I had to add rolled up blankets and pillows to fill the gaps. Also, when you put it together, for a toddler bed the plywood they supply you with isn't the correct size. At least, we couldn't figure out how it was supposed to work! We used some of the cardboard from the box to make it work! Other than that it is a great bed. Just plan on using a twin matress insted of the toddler, and you'll avoid these problems.

If you live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building, be prepared to have some extra help getting this bed up the stairs. The shipper refuses to deliver to a 2nd floor apartment, yet you will not find this out until after you purchase the bed and the shipper calls to schedule your delivery. In my opinion this is an important fact that should be stated in the description of this product. I am a single mother, I don't exactly have extra help standing around and I was completely unaware of the fact that there were delivery restrictions. I wondered how I was going to get this bed upstairs, in the middle of the day, while all of my friends are at work leaving me with no one to call. I just opened the box and carried it up piece by piece. I really don't see why the shipper can't help just take a few steps further with the bed, it's not terribly heavy. The box is bulky, but it would have been extremely easy for 2 people to get this bed up a single flight of stairs. Heck, he could have even helped me carry it up and it would have been easy, and I'm not exactly a large person. That's how easy it could have been, but you won't find out until it's too late. Overall, it's a great bed and my 2 yr old son absolutely loves it. Very sturdy, nice and colorful, cool decals, etc. so you can customize to your liking. Perfect size for a twin mattress, perfect size bed for a toddler to grow into and learn to sleep in a big boy bed.

We're using the bed for our 2 year old, but he hasn't slept in it overnight. It holds a todler mattress or single mattress. With the single mattress in, the sides of the bed are not high enough to hold him in if he rolls.
Assembly was straight forward and easy. The bed is all plastic and for the price you pay, it's over priced in my opinion. I worked in a injection molded plastic factory for summer jobs growing up and know how easy it is to make the pieces of the bed. There are wood boards for support of the mattress that comes with it.
I wouldn't buy it again if I could do it all over again. The price is too high for a bunch of plastic. Our son wasn't wowed into actually wanting to give up his crib and sleep on it either.

Well, my 3 yo LOVES it and loves to sleep in it. However, we've had it less than 4 months and we just noticed the seams showing in the plastic. The seams look like "cracks" around the bed. My son weighs 35 lbs + a twin mattress, so it can't be a "weight" issue. I'll be contacting Step 2 to see if this a warrantty issue...maybe some kind of defect.

Step Ahead has great customer service. I bought this directly through them for $350, not sure why B7B thinks they can charge $1k for it.

We're so looking forward to get this convertible bed for our 2 year old boy but we refused to get it through online because the shipping is away too expensive, $165. It's almost the same cost as the bed. We hope Toysrus will carry them in store soon or they have internet promotion for free shipping on this item. Otherwise they will lose business.....

So after researching over a month for the right car bed for my son, I decided to trust the reviews here and get Step 2 convertable car bed. The bed came in huge box without anything to protect the (cheap) plastic parts. Needless to say, the pieces had scratches all over them. Next, I see that the bag of the decals is ripped open and the all the stickers are wrinkled!!! I mean, are you kidding me? you ship me a bed that obviously someone probably opened and returned to the warehouse?!!! I can't believe that for this price I just payed, this is what I got. We were so looking forward to have my son sleep on it tonight and now I have to wait till Monday to call them up. Oh, and not to mention that the company does not deliver it all the way to your door, so if you are like me, and lives in an apartment building, they only bring it to the front of the building and you need to figure out how to carry it in. I am beyond pissed at the condition of the bed and will contact them first thing on Monday to demand an explanation. I will give an update soon...
